A Learning Path To Tune Gaming Programs

Context:

Game developers form an important community of Intel users. Intel® Graphics Performance Analyzers (Intel® GPA) is a popular suite of tools that game developers use frequently to tune their code with GPU profiling tasks. But when performance issues arise on the CPU side, a twin strategy with VTune Profiler can elevate the profiling experience. During my interactions with technical consulting engineers who support our gaming customers, I realized there was a need to promote this strategy.

Process:

For several weeks, I engaged with our consulting engineers to learn about their customer visits. I was hungry to know what technical content these customers found useful and what they still needed. The VTune and Intel GPA engineers worked with a few gaming companies, where they did joint demos and troubleshot complicated performance issues. These experiences informed us to create a learning path together. Since these optimization tools are powerful with several functionalities to support different profiling needs, the learning path tied together specific features that would appeal to game developers.

I introduced the combined workflow in the learning path to provide the user with orientation. Then, I described each step of the workflow in separate sections.

Additionally, I worked with an engineer to edit and publish two new technical recipes for users of popular gaming engines.
